UDF Appoints Dr. Babita Sikriwal as National President — First Woman to Head a National Doctors' Organisation in India and DR Mir Waseem from gmc handwara Jk National vice president.

New Delhi: The United Doctors Front (UDF), a NITI Aayog-enlisted registered NGO, largest association of young doctors and medical students has announced its National Team for the tenure 2026–27. 

UDF Chairperson Dr. Lakshya Mittal made the announcement on Wednesday.

In a historic first, Dr. Babita Sikriwal (AIIMS CAPFIMS, Delhi) has been appointed National President — becoming the first woman to lead a national-level doctors' organisation in India. Dr. Ankit Sharma (AIIMS, Jodhpur), Dr. Mir Waseem (GMC Handwara, J&K), and Dr. Onkar Singh are the new National Vice-Presidents. Dr. Prashant Sharma takes charge as National General Secretary, Dr. Rakesh Beniwal as National Joint Secretary, and Dr. Bharat Rathore as National Finance Secretary.

The team comprises distinguished professionals from premier institutions including AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur, PGIMER Chandigarh, SMS Jaipur, and several other government medical colleges. A strong legal wing, a senior Advisory Committee, zonal secretaries for all five zones, and dedicated cells for Anti-Ragging, Mental Health, PwD, Junior Residents, RTI, FMG, Academic & Research, and Student Wing have also been constituted.

The announcement follows a landmark year for UDF — the organisation fought for regulated duty hours for resident doctors, took up the NEET-PG 2025 single shift case, campaigned for a residency scheme, and held its successful national conference UDFCON 2025. The new team has been tasked with further strengthening these efforts and building a more robust organisational structure.

Congratulating the team, Dr. Lakshya Mittal said, "Dr. Babita Sikriwal becoming the first woman National President of a doctors' organisation in India is a proud moment for UDF. After a year of fighting for duty hour reforms, the NEET-PG case, and hosting UDFCON 2025, we are building an even stronger organisation.
