Chandigarh: The Debt-Free India Campaign has urged the Punjab government to address the growing debt burden on farmers, small traders, women and salaried families. Addressing the media at the Chandigarh Press Club, National Convenor Shah Nawaz Chaudhary Bhartiya announced a five-point demand charter to be submitted to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The charter seeks a Chief Minister’s Punjab Debt Relief Fund, a state Debt Relief Commission, targeted loan relief of up to ₹10 lakh for eligible families, and strict action against illegal loan recovery, intimidation and harassment. It also calls for a time-bound debt relief policy and an effective grievance redressal mechanism for distressed borrowers.
Chaudhary said the debt crisis required concrete policies and effective implementation rather than mere announcements. He urged the government to establish transparent mechanisms to provide relief to genuinely distressed families.
Those present included Deepanshu Sharma Bhartiya, National Legal Head of the campaign; Harpreet Singh Saini Bhartiya, Chairman of Shaheed-e-Azam Inquilab Foundation; Surbhi Srivastava Bhartiya, Amandeep Bhartiya, Rahul Parcha Bhartiya and other campaign members.
