Desh Bhagat University Commemorates the Painful Memories of Partition and Pays Tribute to the Victims
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 26: Desh Bhagat University observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to commemorate the countless lives affected by the Partition of India in 1947. The solemn programme remembered the suffering, displacement, separation, loss and resilience of millions of people who experienced one of the most traumatic episodes in the history of the subcontinent.
The programme commenced with the arrival of Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, President Dr. Sandeep Singh,Vice Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti,Dr. Parvinder Singh,Vice President and other dignitaries.
Dr. Ajoy Batta, Dean, Research and Development Centre (RDC), welcomed the Guests and other dignitaries, and highlighted the importance of remembering the human dimensions of Partition.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ram Singh Gurna, who reflected on the historical significance of Partition and its enduring impact on individuals, families and communities.
A digital documentary on Partition was subsequently screened, presenting historical accounts and personal experiences that depicted the suffering, displacement, separation and resilience associated with 1947. The programme was further enriched by cultural performances by students.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Renu Sharma, Incharge, Faculty of Liberal Arts, who expressed gratitude to the university leadership, dignitaries, faculty, staff and students for their valuable participation.
