Mandi Gobindgarh, August 2: Reinforcing its commitment to a drug-free and healthy society, Desh Bhagat University (DBU), Mandi Gobindgarh, actively participated in the nationwide “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat” campaign through the Digital Pledge initiative and the live address of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
On August 1, thousands of students, faculty members and staff of the University participated in the Nasha Mukta Yuva Digital Pledge Campaign, pledging to remain free from substance abuse and to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs among society. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation across the University’s various faculties and departments.
Continuing the national campaign, DBU students today gathered on the University campus to attend the live address of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the launch of the “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.” The Prime Minister called upon the youth of the nation to become ambassadors of a drug-free India and urged educational institutions, parents and society to work collectively towards eliminating the menace of substance abuse.
The University’s participation follows the recent virtual interaction convened by Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, with Vice Chancellors of universities across the State to strengthen institutional participation in the anti-drug movement. Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, attended the virtual conference and assured the University’s wholehearted support to the statewide and national campaign against drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti said that universities have a significant responsibility in shaping responsible, healthy and socially conscious citizens. He emphasised that Desh Bhagat University will continue to organise awareness programmes, counselling initiatives, outreach activities and youth engagement campaigns to support the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh appreciated the enthusiastic participation of DBU students, faculty and staff in both the Digital Pledge campaign and the Prime Minister’s live address. He stated that the fight against substance abuse is a collective social responsibility and that educational institutions must lead this movement by creating awareness, promoting healthy lifestyles and empowering youth to become agents of positive change.
The University reiterated its commitment to supporting all initiatives of the Government of India and the Government of Punjab aimed at building a drug-free, healthy and progressive nation.
