Army Goodwill School Chountiwari Machil Upgraded to High School, A New Chapter for Border-Area Education

Machil, Kupwara: For children growing up in the remote and challenging terrain of Machil, access to quality education has always carried a significance beyond the classroom. A major step in that direction has now been taken with the upgradation of Army Goodwill School Chountiwari Machil to the High School level, opening a new chapter in educational opportunities for students of the border area.
The development was highlighted during the school's Independence Day celebrations held recently, where students and staff came together to mark the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic spirit, enthusiasm and a colourful programme.
The celebration featured the hoisting of the National Flag, the National Anthem and a range of patriotic and cultural presentations by students. However, beyond the celebrations, the occasion carried a deeper message for the local community—the expansion of educational opportunities for children in one of the remote areas of Kupwara district.
With the school now upgraded to the High School level, students from Machil and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from continued schooling closer to home. The development can reduce the difficulties faced by families whose children otherwise have to travel considerable distances to pursue higher classes.
The school's approach, however, extends beyond conventional academics. Students are being introduced to robotics and computer education, providing them with exposure to modern technology and helping them develop skills that can prove valuable in higher education and future careers.
Equal emphasis is being placed on public speaking and personality development. Through these activities, students are encouraged to overcome hesitation, improve communication, build confidence and develop leadership qualities.
The institution is also promoting a strong culture of physical fitness and sports. Students are encouraged to participate in yoga, fencing, karate, volleyball and football, combining education with discipline, teamwork, physical fitness and sportsmanship.
Speaking about the development, Mr. Tariq Sultan, Principal of Army Goodwill School Chountiwari Machil, said the upgradation of the institution to the High School level is a significant achievement for both the school and the children of Machil.
Mr. Tariq Sultan said the vision of the school goes beyond academic achievement and is focused on preparing students to face the demands of a rapidly changing world. He highlighted the importance of technology, competitive examination preparation, communication skills, sports and co-curricular activities in shaping well-rounded personalities.
He also expressed gratitude to the authorities and the Indian Army for their continued support in strengthening educational facilities and creating opportunities for children in the remote border region.
The development assumes particular importance in an area where geography and difficult terrain can make access to educational institutions challenging. The availability of High School-level education closer to home can therefore provide families with greater educational continuity for their children.
The Independence Day programme ultimately became more than a patriotic celebration. It reflected a broader vision for the children of Machil—one in which education, technology, confidence, discipline and opportunity go hand in hand.
