J&K Sculptor Ganesh Kumar Sharma Wins International Gold Award in Brazil
Hiranagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s contemporary art scene has earned another moment of international recognition, with eminent sculptor Ganesh Kumar Sharma receiving the prestigious “International Gold Award” from L & L International Art Group, Brazil.
Sharma, a renowned sculptor from Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of KH Art Gallery, Hiranagar, was honoured during an international online virtual art exhibition organised by the Brazil-based art group. His sculpture “Embrace Within”, crafted in beautiful green marble, was selected for the award by an international jury from entries received from artists across the world.
The recognition adds another significant achievement to Sharma’s long artistic journey and places the creative work of a Jammu and Kashmir sculptor on an international platform.
According to the artist, the award was announced by Lelia Ortigão, President of L & L International Art Group and an internationally recognised contemporary artist and curator, who extended her congratulations to Sharma on receiving the honour.
A journey marked by national and international recognition
Ganesh Kumar Sharma has established himself as one of the prominent contemporary sculptors associated with Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, he has regularly participated in national and international exhibitions and art events, representing the region through his sculpture.
His artistic journey includes several awards and honours at the state, national and international levels. He was conferred the Jammu and Kashmir State Award with Gold Medal in 2006 and received the National Award from the Government of India in 1998.
His latest international recognition from Brazil further strengthens a record that spans decades of artistic work and participation in the wider world of contemporary sculpture.
“Embrace Within” brings recognition from across the globe
The award-winning sculpture, Embrace Within, reflects Sharma’s continuing engagement with contemporary sculptural expression. Created in green marble, the work was selected through an international exhibition that brought together artistic entries from different parts of the world.
For an artist from Jammu and Kashmir, such recognition carries significance beyond an individual achievement. It demonstrates how artists from the region are contributing to international creative spaces and gaining appreciation from juries and art institutions outside India.
Sharma’s achievement is also likely to encourage young artists and sculptors in Jammu and Kashmir to pursue their creative work with greater confidence and seek opportunities beyond conventional platforms.
Another proud moment for J&K’s art community
The International Gold Award is the latest addition to Ganesh Kumar Sharma’s collection of distinctions. His continued participation in art exhibitions across India and abroad has helped him build a presence in the contemporary sculpture field.
As Jammu and Kashmir continues to produce artists working across different forms of visual expression, achievements such as Sharma’s offer a reminder that talent from the region can find a place on international platforms when supported by dedication, creativity and sustained artistic practice.
The honour from Brazil is therefore not merely another award for an individual sculptor; it is also a moment of pride for Jammu and Kashmir’s artistic community.
