Member of Parliament (MP) for Baramulla Er Rashid Tuesday asserted that he was innocent and hoped that the truth would eventually prevail very soon.

Speaking to his supporters and well-wishers in his native village Mawer as he left for Tihar Jail after the expiry of his interim bail, Rashid said that he had committed nothing wrong and remained confident that time would prove him innocent.

Rashid urged his followers to remain steadfast and dedicate themselves for the welfare of the underprivileged in his absence.

"If you all really honour me then take care of the poor and those in need," he told the gathering. The Baramulla MP also expressed gratitude to all those who visited his residence to offer condolences following the death of his father, including political leaders, religious scholars and local residents. Er Rashid thanked the Delhi High Court for granting him interim bail with the result he was able to participate in the last rites of his deceased father.

"Many inmates in Tihar Jail don't get the opportunity to offer final adieu to their dear ones. "Several inmates lodged in Tihar Jail were unable to bid farewell to their loved ones during family bereavements," he said.

Er Rashid raised concerns over public hardships saying that people were struggling due to inadequate basic amenities and rising electricity tariffs.

He urged the government to address these issues and provide relief to the common people. Appealing for calm and harmony, the MP called upon his supporters to maintain peace, describing it as essential for society and humanity. "Public service has always remained my priority and holding office has never remained my goal. Even if I am not an elected representative, I would continue to stand with the people," he added.
