​Bhaderwah, July 08: Civil administration officials, security top brass and several local residents on Wednesday gathered here to accord an emotional and grand farewell to Colonel Yogesh Chauhan, the outgoing Commanding Officer of 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), marking the end of his highly acclaimed tenure in the region.

​The farewell organized by the Youth Action Committee (YAC) Bhaderwah turned highly emotional as speakers recounted the officer's pivotal role in counter insurgency operations, disaster relief and youth engagement.

​"The affection shown by the people of Bhaderwah will always remain close to my heart. I sincerely pray that I may return to serve this beautiful region again in a higher rank," an emotional Col. Chauhan said.

​He extended his gratitude to the civil administration, police, CRPF and local volunteers for their seamless cooperation during his command. "I am highly thankful to the entire Youth Action Committee for giving me such a warm and memorable farewell," the officer added.

​Speakers at the event, which included the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bhadarwah, Commanding Officer of the CRPF, BMO and senior officers of the civil administration hailed Col. Chauhan as a "people’s officer" who successfully bridged the gap between the military and civilians.

​"The people of Bhaderwah will always remember his dedicated service with gratitude and respect," said Naseer Mehboob, Chairman of the Youth Action Committee.

​Highlighting the officer's humanitarian interventions, YAC Advisor Taraq Ahmad Butt recalled the Army's swift response during the devastating cloudburst at Bheja under Col. Chauhan's direct leadership.

​"When disaster struck Bheja, the Army worked shoulder to shoulder with local volunteers, constructing a temporary bridge overnight and establishing a mega relief camp for the displaced families. This demonstrated an exceptional commitment to humanitarian service," Butt said.

​Beyond law and order, the outgoing CO was credited with driving massive youth empowerment initiatives including the successful execution of the Pro Kabaddi League, the International Dangal at Bhaderwah and extensive anti-drug campaigns under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

​The ceremony, which saw the participation of ex-servicemen, trade union leaders and members of the media fraternity also featured a cultural interlude requested by ADC Bhaderwah Anil Thakur, local folk singer Ravi Thakur performed a traditional Bhaderwahi folk song drawing applause from the security personnel and civilians alike.

​In recognition of his distinguished service, the YAC honored Col. Chauhan with an Appreciation Certificate and a traditional Kashmiri shawl. The event wrapped up with the presentation of mementoes and group photographs cementing what local leaders described as a golden chapter in civil-military relations in the Bhaderwah valley.
