MOSCOW, Aug 3: UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the government would be "relentless" in its efforts to reduce the number of immigrants illegally arriving in the country by boat.
According to the Times newspaper, more than 2,000 migrants have arrived in the country by boat since Burnham took office on July 20.
"We're just going to be relentless. People want to see this issue addressed," he said, speaking about illegal immigrants arriving in the country.
At the same time, the prime minister said the government must also create safe routes.
Burnham added that London planned to double the number of law enforcement officers on the British side of the English Channel.
In 2025, more than 41,000 immigrants arrived in the UK illegally by boat across the English Channel, the second-highest number after the record-breaking 2022.
