Baramulla, July 29: The Under-17 Boys Inter-District Provincial Level Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2026 commenced on Wednesday at St. Joseph's School, Baramulla, under the aegis of Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, Jammu & Kashmir, with DYSS Baramulla serving as the host district.

The championship was formally inaugurated by the District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO), Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, in the presence of Mubeen Ahmad Khan (PEM), Shabir Ahmad Thoker (PEM), and Showkat Ahmad Waza (PEM) Convener of the Tournament, along with officials, technical staff, coaches, and participating teams.

A total of eight districts out of ten are participating in the prestigious Under-17 provincial football championship, providing a competitive platform for young footballers to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.

The opening day's first session featured six exciting matches, with Bandipora defeating Anantnag 4-0, Baramulla thrashing Shopian 8-0, and Srinagar registering a dominant 9-0 win over Kulgam. Ganderbal and Budgam played out a closely contested draw, while Srinagar continued their winning run by overcoming Anantnag 4-2. In another evenly fought contest, Baramulla and Budgam shared points after their match ended in a draw.

The tournament is expected to witness intense competition in the coming days as participating districts strive to secure the coveted provincial title and earn qualification for the next stage of the prestigious Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2026.
