Kupwara, July 2026: As part of an exposure and learning visit, representatives of Piramal Foundation visited Kupwara to gain firsthand insights into community-led development initiatives and engage with stakeholders working across the health, nutrition, and community development sectors. The visiting team included Ms. Zeeshan Hassan, Senior Program Director, Piramal Foundation Jammu & Kashmir, and Mr. Surinder Gulati, Senior Member, Piramal Pharma, Mumbai.
During the visit, the team interacted with Mr. Abdul Qayoom Wani, CDPO, ICDS Poshan Project Sogam, and visited the Anganwadi Centre at Wani Mohalla, Sogam, to understand ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening ICDS service delivery and improving nutrition outcomes. The team also attended a Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) at Panchayat Ghar Dardpora, where a large number of children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers participated.
Stakeholders highlighted the contribution of the Piramal Foundation team in community mobilization, awareness generation, and strengthening service delivery through initiatives such as Kuposhan Mukt Panchayat and Model VHSND. On the occasion, Dr. Aashiq Hussain, Medical Officer, RBSK Sogam, and Dr. Mehjabeen, Medical Officer, emphasized that VHSND serves as a vital platform for ensuring the delivery of essential health, nutrition, immunization, and awareness services to beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
The visiting team met with Dr. Mudasir Ahmad Wani, JKAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sogam, to discuss various developmental initiatives being implemented across the subdivision and explore opportunities for strengthening community-centric governance and service delivery. Discussions focused on enhancing convergence among departments, improving access to essential services, and promoting sustainable development through active community participation and institutional collaboration.
The visiting representatives appreciated the dedicated efforts of frontline workers, health officials, ICDS functionaries, Panchayati Raj Institution members, and the district administration in strengthening service delivery and improving community well-being across the district. They also acknowledged the valuable contributions of Dr. Jahangir Ahmad Khan, Supervisor, Zone Dorsoo, and Ms. Shaziya Wani, Anganwadi Worker, Wani Mohalla Sogam, for their commitment to advancing child health, nutrition, and community development outcomes.
The visit reaffirmed Piramal Foundation’s commitment to working closely with government departments and local communities to accelerate progress in health, nutrition, education, and overall human development across Kupwara district. (Press Release).
