SRINAGAR, June 5: The Police today intensified its anti-drug campaign across Kashmir, attaching properties worth crores of rupees, demolishing illegal structures linked to narcotics trafficking, arresting drug peddlers and conducting awareness programmes under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan.”
A police spokesperson said that in Anantnag, a double-storeyed residential house and a high-density apple orchard belonging to Mohammad Ashraf Dar of Tulkhan were attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. The property, valued at around Rs. 70 lakh, is suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking. “By targeting assets generated through illegal activities, we aim to weaken the financial backbone of narcotics networks,” the spokesperson said.
In Srinagar, police attached immovable and movable properties worth over Rs. 4 crore in separate cases registered at Police Stations Lal Bazar and Khanayar, the spokesperson said. The attached assets included residential houses, land and vehicles allegedly acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.
The spokesperson further said that Ganderbal Police attached properties worth approximately Rs. 2.13 crore belonging to Parvaiz Ahmad Hanga and his wife Tabassum Parvaiz after investigations established that the assets had been acquired through illicit drug trafficking.
As part of enforcement measures, police also carried out extensive NARCO raids in hotels in the Mavoora, Rafting Point and Yanner areas of Pahalgam subdivision. According to the spokesperson, six police teams searched several hotel premises based on credible inputs to prevent their misuse for narcotics-related activities.
In Anantnag, four drug peddlers were arrested in three separate operations and contraband substances, including cannabis, heroin-like substances and charas, were recovered from their possession, the spokesperson said. Several cases under the NDPS Act have been registered and investigations are underway. “We will continue proactive operations across the district to curb the menace of drugs and dismantle trafficking networks,” the spokesperson said.
