Kupwara, July 19, KNT: The District Administration Kupwara has issued a weather advisory in view of the inclement weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, for the period from July 19 to July 23, urging residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution.
According to the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Kupwara, people residing in or travelling through vulnerable areas, including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnambal, Jumugund, Nowgam and Kumkadi, have been advised to avoid venturing into areas prone to landslides, flash floods and other weather-related hazards until conditions improve.
The administration has also advised people living along the peripheries of rivers, nallahs and hilly slopes to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable locations during the advisory period.
Tourists, travellers and transporters have been asked to verify the condition of roads before undertaking journeys towards the hilly areas of the district, as heavy rainfall may lead to road blockades, landslides and disruption of traffic.
The Deputy Commissioner has directed all district and sectoral officers, including officials of the Public Health Engineering, Jal Shakti, Public Works (R&B), Mechanical Engineering, Revenue, KPDCL, BEACON, PMGSY and Municipal bodies, to remain in a state of readiness, maintain close coordination with the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and Station House Officers, and ensure prompt response to any emergency.
The administration said the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Police Control Rooms at Kupwara and Handwara, and the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) have been kept available to assist the public in case of emergencies.
The district administration appealed to residents to strictly follow official advisories and cooperate with authorities until the weather situation improves. [KNT]
