JAMMU, May 25: Bringing pride to Jammu and Kashmir, Anjali Devi, daughter of Balwant Singh and Veena Devi from Sunkhal village in Kathua district, has successfully scaled Mount Everest as part of the first all-women mountaineering expedition of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Anjali, an ITBP personnel, reached the summit of the world’s highest peak at an altitude of 8,843 metres and unfurled the National Flag atop Mount Everest, marking a historic achievement for both the force and her native village.
Celebrations erupted in Sunkhal village after news of her success reached home. Villagers, relatives and well-wishers gathered at her residence with sweets and traditional music to celebrate the achievement of the daughter of the soil who brought laurels to the region.
Her father, Balwant Singh, said the entire family and village were proud of Anjali’s accomplishment. He added that her success was the result of years of dedication, discipline and hard work.
Anjali had earlier participated in the ITBP women’s mountaineering expedition in 2025, successfully scaling a 7,135-metre peak. She also won the Walong Half Marathon (21 km) in 2025, further showcasing her endurance and sporting excellence.
From the hills of Jammu and Kashmir to the highest point on Earth, Anjali Devi’s journey stands as an inspiration for young girls across the country.
