Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, today said that the JKP is continuously fighting Pakistani-sponsored terrorism and carrying forward the anti-narcotics campaign and asserted that the force stands firm in every situation and remains committed to safeguarding the nation.

Addressing the newly recruited constables during the presentation ceremony of appointment letters at the Armed Police Complex in Zewan here, the DGP said policing in J&K goes beyond traditional law enforcement and must focus on strengthening public confidence.

“You will have to fight terrorism, drugs and crime, but while dealing with policing challenges, there should be no disrespect towards the people,” Prabhat told the recruits.

Prabhat asked newly recruited constables to maintain respectful public conduct and ensure fairness and honesty while performing their duties.

He said the induction of 4,000 new constables would strengthen the operational capabilities of the force, particularly in anti-terror operations in forests and mountainous areas.

The DGP said the 4,000 recruits, including 600 women, must make every effort to win the trust of the public, asserting that confidence-building would only be possible through honesty, fairness and professional conduct.

“You will be able to win the confidence of the people only when you are 100 percent honest and ensure fairness in whatever you do,” he said.

Prabhat said the induction of the recruits would significantly enhance the force’s operational capabilities and serve as a major boost in anti-terror operations against Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in forests and mountainous areas.

“With your presence, the operational capabilities will increase and you will act as force multipliers,” he said.

The DGP said J&K Police has evolved into a technology-driven force and stressed the need to further strengthen its citizen-centric approach due to the unique security and policing challenges in the Union Territory.

“In comparison to other police forces, J&K Police have to function beyond traditional policing because our challenges are unique,” he said, adding that the recruits would be trained physically, mentally and professionally to handle these responsibilities.

Highlighting the educational background of the newly selected constables, Prabhat said the force now includes Graduates, Postgraduates, BTechs and MTechs, who would be deployed in specialized technical services after advanced training.

“When educated people become part of J&K Police, it reflects your patriotism. We have to further strengthen the citizen-centric approach,” he said.

The DGP said J&K Police personnel remain at the forefront during every crisis, including natural calamities, emergencies, yatras and tourist movement, and continue to serve people under difficult circumstances.

“Whenever there is any crisis, natural calamity or emergency, J&K Police stands with the people everywhere and fights every challenge,” he said.

Prabhat said the recruitment of 4,000 constables was the biggest recruitment exercise undertaken by J&K Police in recent years, adding that more than 5.5 lakh candidates had applied for the posts advertised in 2024.

He further announced that the recruitment process for 2,484 additional constables has already been initiated after a proposal was submitted to the Government.

Referring to the sacrifices made by the force, the DGP said 1,620 personnel of J&K Police had laid down their lives in the line of duty.

“You are becoming part of a brave police force that has been serving the country since the 1800s,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign launched under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Prabhat said J&K Police was fighting the menace of drugs with the same resolve as terrorism and organised crime.

He said a massive crackdown against narcotics was underway across the Union Territory and that the police had significantly tightened the noose around drug networks.

“Under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor, a strong drive has been launched against narcotics,” he said.

DGP said the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign, launched on April 11, was yielding visible results, with police actively participating in the anti-drug drive across the region. “If you have been following the news, the results of the campaign must already be visible,” he added.
