TEHRAN, July 12: Iran and Oman have agreed to continue consultations on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until what it described as the end of US interference in the region, stating that no vessels would be allowed to pass.
On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman for talks on the situation in the strategic waterway. "Oman and Iran agreed to continue dialogue at the political, legal and technical levels to reach a joint understanding on ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," Baghaei said while commenting on Araghchi's visit to Oman, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The spokesman added that the future management of the Strait of Hormuz should be determined through consultations between Iran and Oman, taking into account developments over recent months and what he described as military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.
He also noted that Qatar participated in the consultations as one of the mediating countries involved in the dialogue between Iran and the United States. (UNI)
