Srinagar, July 29: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next several days, with the possibility of heavy to torrential rainfall in parts of the Jammu division.
The weather department said Katra recorded 71.2 mm, Samba 87 mm, Udhampur 65 mm and Jammu 52 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
From July 29 to 31, a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places, with brief intense heavy showers or torrential rain likely at a few places in the Jammu division, mainly during the early morning and late afternoon or evening hours. Some areas of Kashmir division may also receive brief intense showers.
The MET Centre has forecast further spells of rain and thundershowers from August 1 to 7, with heavy to torrential rain possible in some districts of Jammu division between August 3 and 5.
In its advisory, the weather department warned that torrential rain and intense showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations between July 29 and August 2.
The general public, tourists, travellers and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and follow advisories issued by the administration.
