DBU Launches Coursera, Introduces 24-Credit Minor in Artificial Intelligence

Mandi Gobindgarh, September 4: Desh Bhagat University (DBU) has taken a significant step towards strengthening technology-driven education with the launch of Coursera and the introduction of a 24-credit Minor in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The university organised the Minor in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science and the Coursera Launching Ceremony, marking an important milestone in its efforts to expand access to globally relevant education and emerging technologies.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, DBU, said the Coursera launch would make globally recognised learning opportunities more accessible to students. He said the AI minor would allow learners from diverse academic backgrounds to develop future-ready skills alongside their regular degree programmes.

Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-Chancellor, DBU, highlighted the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence across professional sectors. He said AI is transforming almost every profession and should not remain restricted to students pursuing computer science and related disciplines.

He added that through our collaboration with Coursera and the introduction of a 24-credit Minor in Artificial Intelligence, DBU students across disciplines will gain access to high-quality courses, global expertise and industry-relevant skills. This initiative will complement their domain-based degrees, strengthen employability and encourage the responsible application of AI in healthcare, agriculture, management, law, education and other fields.

Prof. Manik Kathuria, Enterprise Account Director, Coursera, was also present during the launching ceremony and shared his views on the collaboration. He highlighted the importance of industry-aligned and globally accessible learning in preparing students for the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The initiative also underscores DBU’s focus on innovation, academic excellence and interdisciplinary learning.
