Mandi Gobindgarh, May 21: The Agrim Club of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Desh Bhagat University (DBU), observed World Bee Day 2026 with an educational visit to Tiwana Bee Farm in Doraha. The outing provided students with hands-on exposure to bee farming techniques and conservation practices, reinforcing the vital role of pollinators in sustainable agriculture and ecosystem health.

The event opened with inspiring remarks from Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti, who emphasized the importance of bee welfare and highlighted the economic and ecological benefits of beekeeping for farming communities. Prof. (Dr.) H.K. Sidhu, Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences, spoke on this year’s World Bee Day theme, “Bee Together for the People and the Planet: A Partnership that Sustains Us All,” underscoring bees’ critical contribution to ecological balance and food security.

Dr. Avinash Kumar Bhatia, event organizer, guided students through practical demonstrations at the apiary and stressed the need for conservation of both flora and fauna. He encouraged student involvement in ongoing environmental preservation initiatives and community outreach programs to raise awareness about pollinator protection.

Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur lauded the department’s initiative, praising the Agrim Club for organising a value-based, awareness-oriented programme that blends academic learning with real-world agricultural practice.

The visit included a tour of beehive management operations, demonstrations of protective and handling techniques, and discussions on sustainable practices that support bee populations, including habitat conservation and pollinator-friendly cropping systems. Students left with enhanced practical knowledge and a renewed commitment to incorporating pollinator-supportive measures into future agricultural work.
