The United States and other Western nations are not making it easy for China to get the technology it needs. China is also trying to catch up with the rest of the world in areas like intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology and quantum computing.

China used to be known as the worlds factory because it was so good at making things. Now China is one of the investors in science and technology. In 2024 China spent around 3.3 trillion yuan, which's about US$460 billion on research and development. This is a lot of money. It is second to the United States. What is more important is that China is spending more and more of its money on research. This is the kind of research that helps us understand the basics of science and can lead to discoveries.
