Srinagar, Aug 11: As many as 3175 rural landless households in Jammu and Kashmir are awaiting land to build houses under the Pradhan Mantri AwasYojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the Centre told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Rural Development said 3673 landless households in J&K have been identified as eligible under the scheme.
“Land has been provided to 498, leaving 3175 awaiting allotment by the J&K administration,” it said.
The figures were given by Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question.
They are based on data available as of August 6, 2026.
The ministry said, “Landless beneficiaries are accorded priority under PMAY-G” and that States and Union Territories are responsible for providing land to eligible households and implementing the scheme."
“J&K has a PMAY-G target of 3,41,644 houses. Of these, 3,34,597 have been sanctioned and 3,26,860 completed. Another 14,784 houses remain incomplete against the target,” it said.
The Centre said delays were linked to “beneficiaries’ unwillingness, permanent migration, disputed succession in cases involving deceased beneficiaries, delay in allotment of land to landless beneficiaries, delays in updating credit confirmation through State IFMIS, elections, and non-availability of construction material.”
“At the national level, 5,61,919 rural landless households have been identified as eligible. Of these, 3,26,183 have been provided land, while 2,35,736 are awaiting allotment,” it said.
The government has approved Phase-II of PMAY-G for completion of an additional two crore houses by March 2029.
It said progress is being monitored through “regular reviews, a dedicated dashboard and workshops with states and UTs”, along with timely allocation of targets, release of funds, and rural mason training programmes to accelerate construction.
